How accurate is a drone survey?
Centimetre work with a drone? Yes, with the right approach. We explain what determines the accuracy and how we guarantee it.
With the right approach, drone surveys reach an accuracy of 1 to 3 cm. But that accuracy does not come by itself — it is the result of a correct method.
What determines the accuracy?
- Ground control points (GCPs): measured points on the ground that anchor the model.
- RTK/PPK: accurate positioning of the drone itself during the flight.
- Flight height and camera: determine the ground resolution (GSD).
- Overlap and flight plan: enough overlapping images for a robust model.
Absolute versus relative accuracy
Relative accuracy (distances within the model) is usually very high. Absolute accuracy (the correct place in the coordinate system) requires good control points or RTK/PPK. For a survey it is mainly that absolute accuracy that matters.
Our guarantee
As a land-surveying office we anchor every flight and check the results on independent control points. That way you know not only what you measure, but also how reliable it is.
